Description

“Sometimes, to set your soul free, you need to face a storm”

About this piece

“Tempestade da Alma” means “Storm within my soul” in Portuguese.

This piece depicts a final scene from a book I have been writing for some time now. It was not the first time I tried to make this scene, but I haven’t succeed, until now. When I saw that wonderful stock from *auroradreams I actually cried from happiness, because I knew I would be able to make this piece. So, thank you so much Dawn, to help me make this possible.

It’s also a very personal piece for me, it shows that, sometimes, we need to face a storm if you want to free ourselves. And I wanted to include in this piece some of my favorite things like: blue color, ocean, wind and rain. I had never worked in a rainy piece before, it was a challenge to make the rain looks kind of real, I had to try some new techniques, I had to step out from my “comfort zone”, but it totally worth it.

It also was the first time I have made such a HUGE piece! The final image is 6000 x 4000 pixels!!! I couldn’t believe myself when I saw it and I don’t recommend anyone to try, it’s so dawn difficult!!! It happened because I started working with an idea in mind, to make the model the “center” of the piece, so I kept the original size from the stock. But, as always happens to me, the work itself seemed to have other plans and when I realized, the background had made itself present. I had to redo a lot of thinks because of this “chance of plans”. The water drops effect for example: I spend 4 hours just to figure out how to make her skin looks wet (it includes putting my daughter in the shower and take a lot of pictures from her, poor baby!!!) but when I resized the piece, this effect looked awful! So, I had to start all over again, figure out another way to make it, kept the original effect only into the “After/Before” piece I always do from my works and count on you to check it out.

I really hope you all enjoy this work. It’s the first one since my health problem and I am kind of insecure to post it here. Thank you so much for all the support and love you always give me.

Lady is the beautiful Nickie [link] + hand [link] The necklace was a actually a lamp from Mixed 5 pack from =loveit (not available anymore) + hand painted chain. Key in her hand I guess is not available anymore (couldn’t even find the account to link to). Hair, lightning and water drops hand painted. The skin was retouched and the dress was completely painted over to look wet, more windy and thorned in the bottom.

Background was composed for a very small part of the rock from the original stock model [link] + rocks in the water and some waves [link]§ion=&global=1&q=BG+Stock+141#/dvlgud + rock arch [link] + moon from [link]§ion=&q=Stock15#/djdmfm and storm sky from sxc.hu [link] + lighthouse from [link]§ion=&global=1&q=Storm+Photodreamstock#/d1aij7y + [link] and [link] texture#/d28n538 + some waves and sea [link]§ion=&global=1&q=Wave+during+Storm+II#/dlkf6 + gate from [link] + [link] and lock/chain from dreamstime. First of all: whoa!
Okay, now maybe I'll try to define what means this "whoa"
At first glance, I've noticed how much effort you must've put into blending all stocks together. And I admit that the way you put together the sea, sky and rocks is seamless... Also the raging waves and lightning striking in the distance make this piece even more powerful.
But what I appreciate the most about this work are the details. Your attention even to the tiniest thing here is awesome (even the resolution of this one speaks for itself). You submitted some details of the model but I would really love to see some other parts in bigger size or even the wallpaper - it would be more than great to have it on a desktop...

But coming back to what I like about this piece is also the vision and its message. It's amazing how determined you were to portray it so accurately, even with a clear composition (as you wrote about the vision of the model in the centre).

But I think that what make me start this critique is exactly the message. I'm captivated by it. It's emphasises by the symbols you used - the storm, key and locked gate.

You admitted that creating rain was a challenge for you, but it proves that it's good to take up new challenges as I in my opinion you dealt with the rain really well. Also with the drops - look realistic.

If I could point out some bad points - if it could be called "bad" - just the chain behind the padlock seems to me to look a little bit unnatural. But maybe it's just my opinion and it's such a small thing that I won't make a fuss about it

Overall it's a beautiful piece, very creative and done with a heart. Hope to see more of you with such mood and imaginativeness.
